Subject: Call for papers--AIC Paintings Specialty Group
PSG Call for Papers AIC Annual Meeting 2006 The Painting Specialty Group of the American Institute for Conservation is putting out a call for papers for the 2006 Annual Conference. While the theme for the General Session is "Using Artifacts: Is Conservation Compromised?" talks are not limited to this topic and we will consider a broader range of papers that are pertinent to the field of painting conservation. The Annual Conference will be held in Providence, Rhode Island on June 16-19, 2006. Those interested in presenting their work need to submit proposals to the program chair of the Painting Specialty Group no later than October 18, 2005. If selected a working title must be received by October 28, 2005 in order to be included in the registration brochure. Please send all ideas, abstracts and inquiries to: Bonnie Rimer Rimer Fine Art Conservation 35 W. Maple Ave. Roselle IL 60172 USA bjrimer<-a t->sbcglobal< . >net 630-307-9095 We would like to encourage PSG members to consider presenting a paper related to the General Session topic "Using Artifacts: Is Conservation Compromised". Although at first glance this would appear to relate best to the other specialty groups we feel there are several interesting possibilities for paintings conservators, for example: 1. The presentation and conservation of early devotional or cabinet paintings 2. Paintings that have been altered or cut-down, split into multiple paintings or altered by artists or past restorers. 3. Works created for domestic interiors, from wall-size ensembles to screens, and the problems of conservation, display and travel 4. Murals in public places 5. Modern and contemporary paintings that incorporate artifacts, found objects, are part of an installation, or experience unusual handling as a result of the artists original intent. 6. Painted wood--furniture, sculpture and other wooden objects that paintings conservators have been asked to treat. We would be interested in collaborations with other specialty groups and would welcome a half-day session devoted to such collaborations. We feel this topic suggests an interesting array of possible talks and we encourage you to be creative. *** Conservation DistList Instance 19:17 Distributed: Thursday, October 6, 2005 Message Id: cdl-19-17-015 ***Received on Wednesday, 28 September, 2005
