Subject: Recorded lectures on heritage conservation
Lectures available on DVD During the course of my teaching in the 2004/5 academic year as a Sessional Lecturer at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication, I used the issues of cultural heritage conservation as a vehicle for students of Broadcast Content Creation to create a series of eight short documentaries. As an introduction to this, lectures by external speakers were filmed for the students' use. Three of these lectures have been edited and assembled on DVD which I can now make available to the wider conservation education community. The first of these is the ICOMOS-UK Christmas Lecture of Feb 12, 2004 "Iraq's Cultural Heritage" by Dr Lamia Al-Gailani Werr of the British School of Archaeology in Iraq and the Iraqi Reconstruction and Development Council the second on Jan 21, 2005 "Conservation and Communities in Post-conflict Situations" by Christian Manhart then Program Specialist, Tangible Heritage Section, UNESCO is an examination of the role of heritage conservation in reconciliation in Afghanistan and Bosnia among others and the third is "Opportunities and Obstacles to Conservation in China" by Lord Hankey, Executive Chairman of Gilmore Hankey Kirke and Vice President of ICOMOS-UK. Christian's and Donald's lectures were filmed at Ravensbourne where a Q&A session was also held in one of the TV studios in the afternoon which offers further interesting insights. Each of these presentations is approximately 50 minutes long as is the Q&A session which together offer an international perspective and a wealth of material which could be used simply for seminar discussion and/or as the basis of critical written work. I can distribute these at a nominal charge for my time and the postage or I would be happy to coordinate the whole at your institution with my own introductory presentations. If you wish to make a video record of any presentations for educational purposes then this can also be arranged.
