Business Unit Information: The Centre City Planning and Design
section is involved in a variety of new and exciting heritage
initiatives. Calgary City Council has identified heritage
preservation as a priority and is committed to working to preserve
more of Calgary's built heritage. To that end, Council has recently
established a heritage grant program and has directed the
Administration to prepare a comprehensive, city-wide Historic
Resource Management Plan.

Centre City Planning and Design comprises a team of highly talented
and passionate planners, urban designers and architects charged with
the creation of visionary new documents and projects. In addition to
the Historic Resource Management Plan, other planning projects
underway include a new Centre City Strategic Action Plan, a new
Downtown Urban Structure Plan, new detailed Area Redevelopment plans
for the East Village and Beltline neighbourhoods and an Urban Design
Plan for 17th Ave. Main Street. This posting presents an opportunity
to be part of this dynamic and exciting environment.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be involved in all
aspects of Calgary's municipal heritage preservation program. These
include:

    *   reviewing development applications for compliance with City
        policy and the Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic
        Places in Canada;

    *   providing administrative support to the Calgary Heritage
        Authority;

    *   providing advice and assistance to a wide range of clients
        including City Council, property owners, developers,
        community groups and the City Administration;

    *   assisting in the preparation of a comprehensive, city-wide
        Historic Resource Management Plan.

Qualifications: Applicants require a university degree in planning
or a related discipline with preference given to those with a
specialization in heritage planning. Candidates should have a
minimum of five years planning experience, preferably including at
least two years in heritage planning and historic resource
management.

accomplishments; innovative and creative problem solving;
demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities while
ensuring quality and creativity; sensitivity to the local business
and political environment; accuracy and attention to detail; ability
to handle a heavy workload and adjust priorities appropriately to
meet deadlines.

Technical: excellent verbal and written communication skills;
working knowledge of standard business computer software; superior
analytical skills; knowledge of heritage policies and programs.

Interpersonal: proven teamwork skills; ability to work independently
with minimum supervision; superior interpersonal communication
skills.
