Subject: Symposium on Florence flood
On Thursday and Friday November 2-3, 2006, Villa la Pietra, New York University with the Institute of Fine Arts Conservation Center will host "Conservation Legacies of L'Alluvione", a two-day symposium in Florence, Italy that will bring together more than a dozen of the Americans, Britons, and others who participated in the rescue and restoration effort after the Florence flood of November 1966. They will attempt to construct a definitive history of what took place and will consider how the lessons learned from the Flood recovery effort have been applied in disasters as recent as Hurricane Katrina. The symposium will begin a week of meetings, lectures, exhibits, tours, and events commemorating the flood. A formal announcement of the program and speakers will be made at the beginning of 2006.
