Furniture Conservator Victoria and Albert Museum London, UK UKP22,000 - UKP26,275 per annum (Band 5, Permanent Post) The Victoria and Albert Museum is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual who will deliver a high standard of preventive and interventive conservation to the Furniture Conservation studio. This studio undertakes work on a wide range of objects from the V&A's Furniture and Asian Collections, objects from the V&A Museum of Childhood, in addition to contributing to the V&A's exhibition and development programmes. Work undertaken in the studio includes 'brown' furniture, clocks, decorative surfaces, modern materials, organic materials e.g. ivory, leather and tortoiseshell, as well as childhood-related objects, architectural models and period rooms. The successful candidate will have two years practical experience in addition to having completed a recognised conservation training programme. Cabinet-making or related woodworking experience and competence with woodworking machinery are required as well as thorough familiarity with wood conservation. You will need to be able to approach the conservation of a wide variety of other materials with confidence and will be required to quickly and accurately assess condition and estimate treatment times, prepare treatment proposals, deliver high quality conservation treatments and documentation, often to tight deadlines. You will be highly self-motivated and able to organise your own workload with the minimum of supervision and work independently or as part of a team. You will have good verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with 35mm digital photography, as well as confidence with IT programmes such as Word and Excel are desirable.
