Course on historic preservation

From: Lisa Muccigrosso <lisa.mucci>
Date: Thursday, February 9, 2006
Study Historic Preservation in Italy: The Historic Preservation
Institute at The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee sponsors a summer
study and research program in the field of Historic Preservation
Methods in the city of San Gemini, Italy. It involves lectures,
workshops on fresco painting, fieldwork surveying a medieval church
and visits to active restoration sites and research institutes in
Italy.

The course is for students and non-professionals and will provide an
overview of preservation theory and fieldwork in Italy. Lectures and
lab sessions will be carried out in the small Umbrian hill town of
San Gemini, Italy, over two five-week sessions and two two-week
sessions this summer.

The program also includes visits to various cities in Central Italy
(including Rome, Florence, Siena, and Assisi), the opportunity to
participate in various social events with local people, and to live
for several weeks in a small medieval city surrounded by the
beautiful Umbrian countryside.

The program is a collaboration between UWM, scholars from various
universities in both the US and Italy, and local preservation
groups, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to historic
preservation. We offer credits for courses based on the UWM
system--please see your home institution advisor to inquire about
transfer credits. Knowledge of Italian is useful but not required.
