Subject: Seminar on biodeterioration
Bioconservar 2006 The international seminar on biodeterioration of cultural heritage 23-27 April 2006 The international seminar on biodeterioration of cultural heritage, Bioconservar 2006, will be held 23-27 April, 2006. The seminar location is the city of Cameche, a UNESCO world heritage on the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. This seminar is a true interface between microbiology and conservation, taught by specialists of both professions. It is aimed for conservators with an interest in biodeterioration and microbiology students with an interest in cultural heritage preservation. It will give a profound introduction into biodeterioration mechanisms in general and those of a wide range of cultural heritage materials as well as an overview of control methods. Participants will be given the chance to present particular biodeterioration problems. The last day is reserved for a case study at the Mayan site of Chicanna, where seminar participants together with the instructors will discuss the type of microorganisms encountered, the degree of biodeterioration and possibilities for their control.
