Conservation Scientist (Band D) Historic Scotland UKP25,622 to UKP31,131 You are invited to apply for this new post in Historic Scotland's Technical Conservation Research and Education Group (TCRE). You will be based at The Historic Scotland Conservation Centre (HSCC Division), currently at South Gyle, Edinburgh, where you will play an important part of the 'Preventive Conservation Science and Education' Unit (PCSE). PCSE is a newly created group within HSCC Division and has been created to develop a high quality scientifically based research, advisory and education service in support of wide-ranging conservation treatments and other objectives serving preservation in the built heritage and historic environment sectors. You will primarily be involved in conservation research and dissemination in support of the conservation of heritage materials (notably stone, wood, traditional plaster and metal); research and investigation into a range of problems from both natural (innate) and environmental and other climatic factors (external). You will play a major part in the development of an in-house service and the building up of a network of contacts for externally commissioned work. You should have a higher degree in a scientific discipline related to conservation and be able to demonstrate a knowledge and skill to carry out research and analysis in material decay processes with a good knowledge of environmental science. You have good communication skills, discretion and the ability to work without supervision, as well as part of a team. Possession of a current UK driving license is essential. Salary is performance related and will be in the Band D range (UKP25,622 to UKP31,131). This is a permanent and pensionable appointment.
