Subject: Historic floor coverings
I am looking for a floor protection for a small castle, which is highly frequented by visitors (approximately 250,000 p.a.). During the summer season guided tours start each five minutes, so there is traffic in each room all of the day. Most of the floors are made from high quality parquetry. On one hand the floors suffer from so many visitors' feet and should be covered, on the other hand the floors are part of the whole attraction and therefore a carpet runner would disturb the sight too much. The protecting material should be diaphanous (bridge of glass?), the build-up must not constrict the doors from opening and closing to acoustically divide the groups, and of course suitable from the conservators point of view. A similar topic was posted in 1998 from Pete Sixbey already, but there was no reply to the list. Any ideas and recommendations are welcome.
