Adhesives for Paleontology Collections Workshop

Cost: $265 USD or $300 CAD (includes all workshop materials, manual,
lunches, breaks, and transportation to and from the conference
venue).

This two-day adhesive workshop, hosted by the Canadian Conservation
Institute, combines scientific lectures on various adhesives of
interest to the paleontology community with practical hands-on
sessions.

Lectures include:

    An introduction to adhesives and bonding

    Properties of a good adhesive for conservation with specific
    reference to paleontology collections

    CCI research on the degradation of cyanoacrylate adhesives in
    the presence and absence of fossil material

    CCI research on poly (vinyl acetate) and acrylic adhesives

    CCI research on epoxy resin adhesives, and an overview of poly
    (vinyl butryal)s

The workshop also includes the following practical hands-on
sessions: comparison of various adhesives (i.e. cyanoacrylates,
PVACs, acrylics, epoxy resins and PVBs) on fossil (and other)
material, how to take a pH measurement of fossil material, how to
calculate the force on a bond, and the examination of various
adhesive additives.

Transportation: Transportation is provided as part of the
registration fee. Registrants will be picked up from the Marriott
Ottawa at 7:45am and returned to the hotel after the workshop
concludes.
