Paper Conservator City of London, London Metropolitan Archives Fixed term contract 9 months JE4 (UKP20,440 - UKP24,110 per annum - pro rata) inclusive of Inner London Weighting Ref: LMA022 Closing Date: Tuesday, 19 September 2006 We are seeking a qualified paper conservator to treat and re-house approximately ninety 19th and 20th century architectural plans and carry out paper conservation on all the major genealogical sources (mostly patient registers) from Guy's and St Thomas' Collection in preparation for microfilming. The position is a fixed term post supported by the Guy's and St Thomas' Charity. The minimum requirements for applicants are a qualification in paper, archive or book conservation and a demonstrated ability to organise and carry out a large body of work within a fixed time frame, to a high standard. The Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital archive is large, consisting of archives from various London hospitals including; The General Lying in Hospital, Lambeth Hospital, Royal Waterloo and Grosvenor Hospitals. St Thomas' Hospital dates back to the 12th Century and is still in operation today as part of Guy's and St Thomas'. The programme to survey, repackage, refurbish and conserve thousands of items in the collection was started in 2000. London Metropolitan Archives is the largest local government archive repository in the United Kingdom. It collects the archives of London institutions including parishes, hospitals, charities, businesses as well as the public utilities. The office receives some 30,000 visitors and 21,000 distance enquiries a year. Their interests include genealogy, local history and academic research.
