Subject: Lecture on incunabula
A Census of Bookbindings on Incunables Lecture by Scott Husby Columbia University, Butler Library, Room 522 Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 6pm Scott Husby, the Rare Books Conservator at Princeton University has been compiling information on incunables held in American library collections that retain their original gothic bindings. So far he has examined over 11,000 bindings produced throughout Europe that are held at the Huntington Library, the Morgan Library and Museum, Union Theological Seminary, and Columbia and Princeton Universities. Using a comprehensive technique to survey the bindings, the census contains descriptive information and visual documentation on specific components of each binding, such as decorative stamps, clasps and furniture, endband construction, sewing structure, and binding waste in addition to known historical information. There are still many books to be added to the census so Scott will share with us findings he has made so far. Please join us! Scott Husby has been a conservation bookbinder since 1973 and has been Rare Books Conservator at Princeton University since 1997. Columbia University is located at 2960 Broadway at 116th Street in New York City. Butler Library is located on the south side of the Quad.
