Subject: Dataloggers

The Hanwell system and the Tinytag loggers are both viable products (as are Onset's Hobo loggers recommended by another respondent). There are several other good products also on the market that probably can be obtained in the U.K. There is, however, a substantial difference in the cost of and capabilities of these loggers. The main difference is that Hanwell, (and also the Eltek system that is available in the UK) offer real time monitoring using radio telemetry to 'beam' the signal back to a central terminal. The Tinytag (at least the ones that I am familiar with) and Hobo loggers are stand alone units. Some types of Hobos can be hard wired though. You have to consider the type of space you are monitoring, your budget and other factors such as battery life number of readings, software (Mac or PC), etc. There is a guide to helping you review some of the different factors involved in choosing a logger available as a Conserve-O-Gram at the National Park Service website at <URL:http://www.cr.nps.gov/ museum/publications/conserveogram/03-03.pdf> **** Moderator's comments: The above URL has been wrapped for email.
