Subject: Subsidized preservation assessment
The Intermuseum Conservation Association is pleased to announce its new Subsidized Preservation Assessment Program. The purpose of the program is to help cultural institutions obtain assistance in identifying their preservation needs at a fully subsidized cost. A major goal of the program is to assist cultural heritage repositories improve their preservation practices. The information gained by the assessments can also help institutions raise funds or apply for grants to meet their preservation needs. The programs are available at no cost to any non-profit cultural institution that can demonstrate a commitment to collection care. ICA will offer two types of assessments. The Preservation Planning Assessment is geared towards institutions with little preservation experience. A conservator will meet with the selected institution and provide suggestions for improvements in collections care and future preservation planning. The Collection-based Survey will focus on a group of artifacts within the selected institution. Items will be assessed and treatment recommendations and estimates will be provided. Applications are due January 15, 2007, and one institution will be chosen from each category. Preference will be given to those applicants in Ohio and its adjoining states. The surveys will take place in spring of 2007.
