Subject: Workshop on the impact of climate change on cultural heritage
The international workshop 'Climate change vulnerability: Maps and guidance for cultural heritage protection' will present the findings of the EC 6th framework project 'Noah's Ark: Global Climate Change Impact of the Built Heritage and Cultural Landscapes' (SSPI-CT-2003-501837). The NOAH's ARK project <URL:http://noahsark.isac.cnr.it/> has determined the most critical risks to the built cultural heritage by researching, predicting and describing the effects of climate change on Europe's built cultural heritage over the next 100 years. It has developed adaptation strategies for cultural landscapes and materials through guidelines and tools, including web-based Climate Risk Maps and a Vulnerability Atlas to assess the threats of climate change. An important part of this project has been developing policy from this research. This workshop will reveal new information about the impact of climate change on cultural heritage, reveal new tools and maps for assessing climate change impact, recommend new adaptation strategies for the historic environment, demonstrate web-based applications, and discuss how European policy can be developed for climate change adaptation. The workshop will take place on 18-19 January 2007 in London.
