Lecture on board slotting

From: Jeffrey Altepeter <jeff>
Date: Tuesday, February 20, 2007
The New England Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers presents a
lecture by New York binder and conservator, Jeff Peachey

Thursday, March 1, 2007, 6pm.
North Bennet Street School
39 North Bennet Street
Boston, MA

Free and open to public

Jeff will demonstrated his new and improved board slotting machine.
Board slotting, more common in Europe than the US, is a relatively
non-invasive conservation technique whereby an angled slot is put
into the spine edge of a board. Material can be placed in the slot,
allowing for secure reattachment of the board. Jeff has produced a
more streamlined version of the board slotting machine that we may
have seen or read about. He will present a history and description
of the technique and demonstrate his machine. This is a great
opportunity to see this technique in action!

Jeff Peachey is a Professional Associate in the American Institute
for Conservation and currently Vice Chair of the Conservators in
Private Practice. In addition to his conservation work for
individuals and institutions, he teaches students in art, archives
and book design programs and makes custom bookbinding tools.
