Two openings:

Senior Paper Conservator/Department Head
Associate Photograph Conservator
Etherington Conservation Services

Etherington Conservation Services is experiencing a rapid expansion
of services and a major influx of work.  With the high demand for
paper and photograph conservation, we invite applicants to submit
their qualifications for two openings: Senior Paper Conservator and
Associate Photograph Conservator.  The individuals will join our
current four-member staff of the Paper/Photograph Conservation
Department and will assist with conservation treatments,
examination, and preservation initiatives of client institutions.
Both openings are full-time positions in our regional conservation
facility in Browns Summit, North Carolina, USA.

Position 1:
Senior Paper Conservator/Department Head

Responsibilities: The Senior Paper Conservator must be able to
manage a department, supervise staff, schedule projects and
coordinate workflow. The Senior Conservator must have advanced level
capability and skills that can be demonstrated and taught to other
developing conservators.  The individual must be able to instruct
and demonstrate conservation techniques and procedures meeting AIC
standards.  He/she is required to maintain the departmental
structure and organization including scheduling of work, tracking
the work in progress, record the department's billable hours and end
of month sales, as well as, coordinate work resources including
labor and materials.  The Senior Conservator is required to meet and
interact with clients on a professional level, including the
attendance at professional conferences, present lectures and
workshops and advance the company's mission.

    Must be able to coordinate the operation of the department and
    oversee the department's productivity

    Must be willing to assist in the development of the company by
    promoting conservation services

    Capable of supervising staff members at all levels

    Can conduct advanced level treatment procedures proficiently

    Capable of scheduling and coordinating work flow

    Performs examination procedures and submits proposals and
    individual cost estimates

    Is well organized and capable of complex problem solving

    Capable of conducting on site surveys and client consultation

    Must be capable of presenting lectures at professional meetings
    and conferences

Qualifications: Master's degree from a recognized conservation
training program or equivalent professional training and experience
treating works on paper.  5 to 10 years of practical experience is
required.  Good organizational and verbal skills and an ability to
work in a group environment are necessary.

Position 2:
Associate Photograph Conservator

Responsibilities: The Associate Paper/Photograph Conservator is
responsible for the identification and treatment of a wide variety
of artifacts: art on paper, archival documents, and photographic
materials. The candidate must have excellent manual skills and be
capable of compiling time and cost estimates as well as condition
and treatment reports.  Professional interaction with clients is
expected.  The Associate Conservator will assist with the
supervision and training of technician-level staff members and
interns.

Qualifications: Master's degree from a recognized conservation
training program plus a minimum of five years post-graduate
experience or a comparable combination of professional training and
experience treating photographic materials is required.  Good
organizational and verbal skills and an ability to work collegially
in a regional conservation environment are necessary.  Knowledge of
preservation theory, standards and ethics of conservation practice
is required.

Skills should include:

    Precision hand-skills.

    Mastery of all routine and complex treatment procedures related
    to paper and photographic materials.

    Attention to detail.

    Excellent communication skills.

    Knowledge of and ability to identify photographic materials.

    Ability to treat fragile, oversized, and valuable objects.

    Ability to work efficiently while maintaining conservation
    standards.

    Ability to work in a group environment.

    Ability to meet deadlines and assist in coordinating workflow.
