Conservator (Paintings) Royal Ontario Museum Contract, Full-time (Contract dates: 14 Weeks, beginning early June 2007) The Royal Ontario Museum seeks a skilled paintings conservator to assist in the conservation of paintings from the permanent collection in conjunction with the Renaissance ROM project (RenROM) the major renovation and expansion project that is currently underway. Working under the direction of the Senior Paintings Conservator, duties will include the examination, technical analysis, written and photo documentation and treatment of historic and modern painted works of art. The Paintings Conservator must demonstrate the ability to work as a member of a team. Manual dexterity, high attention to detail and ability to wear a mask respirator are required. This position is treatment-oriented and the candidate must possess an excellent knowledge of conservation principles, practices, materials, and techniques, as well as an excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations and practices. The successful applicant will possess a Masters degree in Conservation from a recognized training program with a minimum of two years experience in traditional and contemporary paintings conservation OR an acceptable equivalent in education and experience. Ability to work in Canada must be secured by the commencement of the contract.
