Subject: Call for papers--Users' Group for Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography (MaSC)
MaSC workshop and meeting: announcement and call for papers and details of MaSC Round Robin experiment MaSC Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry Workshop and Meeting Philadelphia Museum of Art Winterthur Museum and Country Estate and Agilent Technologies 10-15 September 2007 Further information about the forthcoming MaSC Workshop and Meeting is now available via the website at <URL:http://www.mascgroup.org/meetings.html>, along with the registration form and details of how to register for both the workshop and the meeting. Workshop: The theme of the workshop will be sample preparation for GCMS analysis, and will provide a unique and valuable opportunity for participants to compare three different approaches to the preparation of complex samples from artworks for GCMS analysis. Demonstrations will be conducted by Maria Perla Colombini and Ilaria Bonaduce (University of Pisa), Ursula Baumer (Doerner Institute, Munich), and Michael Schilling and Joy Mazurek (Getty Conservation Institute, Los Angeles). The practical workshop will be limited to 15 participants so early registration is recommended. The registration fee for the workshop is USD 250. Meeting: The meeting will comprise discussions and presentations on a variety of chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques, and their application to the study of art and cultural artefacts. The focus of the meeting will be GCMS and issues related to sample preparation, although contributions on other topics are also encouraged. We hope to create an informal atmosphere for the exchange of ideas, and so short presentations and discussions of work in progress are welcomed. Those interested in presenting should contact Ken Sutherland <masc07 [at] philamuseum__org. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 30 April 2007. The registration fee for the meeting is USD 100. MaSC Round Robin: During the last MaSC meeting, the proposal was made to compare and discuss the GCMS methods used by MaSC members, and to compile the details in a publication. At the forthcoming MaSC workshop three different approaches to GCMS analysis will be presented and discussed. In preparation for the meeting, we are asking for your help with a Round Robin test. The Round Robin sample is a mixture of several types of organic materials found in artworks, which may include drying oils, proteins, natural and synthetic resins, carbohydrates and/or waxes. The exact composition will not be revealed to participants prior to the analysis and compilation of the data. We ask you to participate in the MaSC Round Robin, for further details, or if you wish to participate please send an email to Henk van Keulen Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage henk.van.keulen [at] icn__nl before April 15, 2007 with a postal address suitable for receiving a sample in a glass vial. Dates to note: Deadline for registering to participate in the Round Robin is 15 April 2007 The deadline for submission of abstracts for the meeting is 30 April 2007 Registration deadline for the Workshop and Meeting is 1 June 2007 The workshop will be limited to 15 participants so early registration is recommended The MaSC Committee, Klaas Jan van den Berg and Chris Maines Ester Ferreira, Catherine Higgitt and Ken Sutherland *** Conservation DistList Instance 20:49 Distributed: Friday, April 13, 2007 Message Id: cdl-20-49-007 ***Received on Friday, 6 April, 2007
