Textile Conservator Textile Conservation Laboratory Cathedral of St. John the Divine A full time textile conservation position in tapestry and textile conservation is offered by the Textile Conservation Lab at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, NYC. The position is for a year beginning July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008 and may be renewable. The Lab primarily treats European tapestries from the Cathedral's collection and from other museums and institutions in addition to working on a broad spectrum of other textiles. The applicant will be expected to participate in various ongoing treatment activities in the Textile Lab. Applicants should be a graduate from a recognized conservation program or have worked in the field for at least three years. He or she should be experienced with textiles, microscopy, cleaning, stitching treatments and mounting and should have an interest in tapestry. He or she should be comfortable and work effectively in a group environment, have the ability to focus in on fine work for long stretches of time but should also be able to occasionally carry out activities that are physical in nature, i.e. moving heavy tapestries and wet cleaning. The salary is commensurate with experience and includes full benefits.
