Objects Conservator Conservation Section Bergen Museum University of Bergen Norway The Bergen Museum, Cultural History Collections, at the University of Bergen is offering a full-time, one-year contract position for an objects conservator, with the possibility of extension/permanent appointment. We are looking for an objects conservator with training and experience in archaeological objects to join the conservation section, which is responsible for the preservation and conservation of the cultural history collections. There are conservation labs for textiles, paintings and paper, as well as archaeological, anthropological and cultural historical objects in the section, with 6 permanent positions. This position would focus primarily on the conservation of archaeological objects, such as the extensive collections of objects made of iron and other metals. It would include carrying out preventive conservation measures; technical examination of the objects, such as x-rays; analysis with techniques such as the scanning electron microscope (SEM); conservation treatments and documentation of the procedures carried out. A degree in objects/archaeological conservation from a recognised conservation training program of 3-5 years duration is required. A demonstrated ability to plan, carry out and document conservation treatments, preferably at post-graduate level, is necessary, for example, in the form of a conservation portfolio with copies of treatment reports or reports on conservation projects. The ability to work as part of a team and experience in this is essential. A driving license is also an advantage.
