Objects Conservator
Conservation Section
Bergen Museum
University of Bergen
Norway

The Bergen Museum, Cultural History Collections, at the University
of Bergen is offering a full-time, one-year contract position for an
objects conservator, with the possibility of extension/permanent
appointment.

We are looking for an objects conservator with training and
experience in archaeological objects to join the conservation
section, which is responsible for the preservation and conservation
of the cultural history collections. There are conservation labs for
textiles, paintings and paper, as well as archaeological,
anthropological and cultural historical objects in the section, with
6 permanent positions.

This position would focus primarily on the conservation of
archaeological objects, such as the extensive collections of objects
made of iron and other metals. It would include carrying out
preventive conservation measures; technical examination of the
objects, such as x-rays; analysis with techniques such as the
scanning electron microscope (SEM); conservation treatments and
documentation of the procedures carried out.

A degree in objects/archaeological conservation from a recognised
conservation training program of 3-5 years duration is required. A
demonstrated ability to plan, carry out and document conservation
treatments, preferably at post-graduate level, is necessary, for
example, in the form of a conservation portfolio with copies of
treatment reports or reports on conservation projects. The ability
to work as part of a team and experience in this is essential. A
driving license is also an advantage.

The salary level 35/42, code 1085/LR 22.1) is dependent on the
applicants work experience. A higher salary may be considered for
highly qualified applicants.
