Assistant Conservation Officers Conservation Officer Conservation Technician (Great North Museum Project) Hancock Offices Tyne and Wear Museums M723 Assistant Conservation Officers (Great North Museum Project) Hancock Offices, Claremont Terrace UKP16,137 - UKP20,235 per annum (pay award pending) 37 hours per week. 1 position Temporary until 31 December 2007 You will assist the Conservation Officer and project team with the conservation and preparation of Biology, Geology, Ethnography, Archaeology and Egyptology specimens for ten new permanent exhibitions as part of the UKP26m Great North Museum project. Key duties include retrieving objects from storage, cleaning, photography, documentation, and active and preventative conservation. You will also assist with the development of storage arrangements for a new offsite collections store. You will have, or be working towards a degree in conservation and practical experience of museum conservation work in at least one of the relevant subject areas; with an interest in natural history collections. M722 Conservation Officer part time (Great North Museum Project) Hancock Offices, Claremont Terrace UKP18,450 - UKP22,293 pro rata (pay award pending) 22 hours per week. Temporary until 31 December 2007 This is an exciting opportunity to lead the conservation programme for the Great North Museum Project, a UKP26m redevelopment of the Hancock Museum in Newcastle upon Tyne. The main duties include; coordinating and assisting the conservation team in retrieving objects from storage, cleaning, photography, documentation, interventive and preventative conservation. You will also assist with the development of storage arrangements for a new offsite collections store and the transfer of collections. A degree in conservation (or equivalent) along with practical experience in the conservation and preparation of a range of collection types, some of which should include Biology, Geology, Ethnography, Archaeology or Egyptology specimens. Good management and logistical skills, with team leading experience and an ability to working to tight deadlines is also essential. An interest in natural history collections is desirable. Closing Date: 17 May 2007 M724 Conservation Technician (Great North Museum Project) Hancock Offices, Claremont Terrace UKP15,096 - UKP17,985 per annum 37 hours per week. 1 position Temporary until 31 December 2007 You will be responsible for technical duties for the conservation and care of the Great North Museum Project (GNM) collections of Natural Science, Archaeology, Egyptology and Ethnography. You may be required to work at any of the premises in Tyne and Wear Museums and other sites as necessary. Specific duties include retrieving objects from storage, cleaning, photography, documentation, assisting in interventive conservation and restoration of objects, the production of mounts and assisting in the preparation of new taxidermy specimens. You will also assist in the moving of heavy objects and the installation of objects into displays. You will have experience of working in a museum which includes the technical aspects of object conservation. Experience of taxidermy and mount making is desirable.
