Sir Francis Bacon Foundation Internship in Conservation The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens Term: A starting date for the internship period may be scheduled anytime between September 1, 2007 and February 1, 2008, for a period to last at least 5 months. Interns will receive a stipend of up to $2,000 per month. Applications from conservation students at the pre-program, summer employment, recent graduate, or third year internship level are appropriate. The Huntington invites applications for an internship funded by the Sir Francis Bacon Foundation. Working with direction from the Huntington's Rare Book Conservator, the intern will address the conservation of a variety of library materials. Through the practice of conservation treatment techniques, the intern will advance their own understanding of the underlying principals of conservation, and the tools and techniques used in the conservation of library collections materials. The primary focus of the internship will be on the practical application of learned conservation treatment skills. The intern will be instructed in the practice of various treatment techniques and the circumstances under which each technique is appropriate. Conservation treatments, materials, and strategies will be addressed. The intern will work with the Preservation Department's Conservators, who will make use of The Huntington's collections materials in providing instruction. Interested candidates are advised to apply by July 16, 2007. Qualifications: An appropriate four year college degree and demonstrated commitment to a career in conservation, or a recent Master's degree in Library/Information Science or Art History with certificate in Conservation. Recommendations from 2 persons acquainted with the applicant's academic or professional achievements. Candidates must have the capability of being bonded, as may be required by the Huntington's insurer.
