Conservator of East Asian Painting British Museum UKP19,999 per annum pro rata Fixed-term for 6 months The British Museum's Hirayama Studio was opened in 1994, funded with the help of generous donations from Professor Ikuo Hirayama. It is the leading studio dedicated to the conservation of Asian painting in Europe. Work in the studio is based on a combination of traditional Far Eastern techniques and best practice in general art on paper conservation. We are looking for a Conservator who will have a unique opportunity to join a committed team to work on challenging projects as part of the Conservation, Documentation and Science Department. Working as a Conservator on Chinese and Korean paintings, you will be contributing directly to the care of the Museum's outstanding collection of paintings in the Department of Asia. You will liaise with other colleagues on the treatment, display and storage of paintings for the forthcoming exhibitions and loans and will be comfortable working to deadlines. A good communicator and team player, you will have a recognised professional qualification in conservation and some demonstrable experience of the conservation of East Asian paintings, together with an understanding of the principles, concepts and techniques of East Asian painting conservation.
