Conservator of East Asian Painting
British Museum

UKP19,999 per annum pro rata
Fixed-term for 6 months

The British Museum's Hirayama Studio was opened in 1994, funded with
the help of generous donations from Professor Ikuo Hirayama. It is
the leading studio dedicated to the conservation of Asian painting
in Europe. Work in the studio is based on a combination of
traditional Far Eastern techniques and best practice in general art
on paper conservation. We are looking for a Conservator who will
have a unique opportunity to join a committed team to work on
challenging projects as part of the Conservation, Documentation and
Science Department.

Working as a Conservator on Chinese and Korean paintings, you will
be contributing directly to the care of the Museum's outstanding
collection of paintings in the Department of Asia. You will liaise
with other colleagues on the treatment, display and storage of
paintings for the forthcoming exhibitions and loans and will be
comfortable working to deadlines.

A good communicator and team player, you will have a recognised
professional qualification in conservation and some demonstrable
experience of the conservation of East Asian paintings, together
with an understanding of the principles, concepts and techniques of
East Asian painting conservation.
