Preservation Assistant The National Archives, Kew Full-time fixed-term appointment until 31 May 2008, with the possibility of extension or permanency UKP20,070 per annum The National Archives <URL:http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk> is seeking to appoint a Preservation Assistant, who will work under the direction of the Head of Preservation. The successful candidate will be required to ensure that best preservation practice is embedded in all aspects of The National Archives functions, including aspects of disaster planning, pest monitoring, environmental monitoring, training, and best practice for scanning projects. Presenting the work of Collection Care through presentations and training will be key to this post. The successful candidate will be a graduate from a recognized conservation programme or have equivalent work experience. You will also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral, as well as significant knowledge of preservation issues and ethics in the context of a major institution. It is vital that you have the ability to work effectively, both independently and as a member of a team. Training and presentation skills are also a requisite for the role. SoA or ICON membership--accredited member of PACR (Professional Accreditation of Conservators-Restorers) would be advantageous, as would experience of publishing professional or technical papers.
