Digital Asset Management: Implications for Preservation
American Library Association Annual Meeting 2007
Washington Convention Center, Room 151B
Washington, DC
Saturday June 23, 2007
1:30 to 3:30 pm

Sponsored by the Association for Library Collections and Technical
Services (ALCTS) Preservation and Reformatting Section (PARS) and
the Library Information and Technology Association (LITA)

Is your library involved with digital conversion projects? Are you
hoping that you can keep that digital content over the long-term? If
so, this program can help you to succeed in organizing your projects
and programs within the context of preserving the digital files.
ALCTS/PARS and LITA are pleased to present the program

Digital Asset Management: Implications for Preservation

at the upcoming ALA Annual Meeting. Please come join us--bring your
questions and ideas for discussion and let's take on the digital
preservation challenge.

This program will explore the preservation issues implied when an
institution begins a digital reformatting program, and how
colleagues are addressing them. It will examine program management,
including selection, reformatting quality guidelines, technical
metadata, and innovative approaches to archiving digital masters.
Our past practices addressed preservation concerns of analog
materials well into their lifespan. In this digital age, however, we
must gather information at the time of creation to improve
preservation planning, decision making, and eventual outcomes.
