Subject: Facing with cyclododecane
I am interested in employing a protective facing using cyclododecane to a 1930s era mural (painted directly onto the plaster support), before its eventual removal from its present location. The paint layer is extremely sensitive, under-bound, and solubility testing has indicated it is soluble in most common solvents; facing with a solvent-based, water-based, or wax-based consolidant will remove or stain the original paint layer. What suppliers are recommended? How is it applied, and what are its working properties? Is there another material that is superior?
