Professor Cologne University of Applied Sciences Cologne (Fachhochschule Koln) Faculty 02 Cologne Institute of Conservation Science (CICS) Department "Conservation and restoration of paintings and polychrome sculpture" offers two half posts as professor. "Conservation of modern art" Salary bracket W2 BBO (50%) Application no. 02107 a/1 The applicant should provide highly qualified skills in the conservation and restoration of paintings, sculpture and objects in the field of modern and contemporary art. The applicant should possess broad skills and experience in the conservation of a wide range of art works and may have specialised knowledge in particular areas. The applicant is expected to have experience in dealing with artists, collectors, and with gallery and museum personnel. Teaching experience in theory and practice is required and an in depth knowledge of the theory of conservation and restoration of modern and contemporary art. This position is intended to strengthen the branch of study in conservation of paintings and polychrome sculpture; and to further develop the cooperation with other branches, in particular with the conservation of wooden objects and modern materials, creating a special focus in the department. To reflect the wide variety of materials, media and concepts of modern and contemporary art it is expected that the applicant be open to cooperation and interdisciplinary working in both teaching and research. The teaching remit is expected to cover other general aspects of conservation in addition to the specialisation of modern art. It is expected that the applicant will supervise students both in situ and using modern electronic communication means. The applicant is expected to actively participate in extracurricular departmental activities and events, in particular the programme of continuing education and in the internal administration of the department. "Conservation practice in field projects in the context of historic buildings" Salary bracket W2 BBO (50%) Application no. 02107 b The applicant should provide highly qualified skills in the conservation and restoration of paintings and polychrome sculpture and wooden polychrome objects, with the specific focus on practical on-site fieldwork in the context of historic buildings and environments (including the planning, treatment and management of field projects). The applicant is expected to have relevant skills and experience in working together with site partners and conservation officials in local and national conservation organisations responsible for the care of historic monuments. Previous teaching experience and proven knowledge in the theory and history of monument care, and or conservation ethics is desirable. This post aims to strengthen the branch of study in polychrome and wooden constructions (sculpture, retables, polychrome environments, polychrome timberwork e.g.) and to further develop the cooperation with other branches, in particular with the conservation of wooden objects and modern materials. The applicant is expected to actively participate in the interdisciplinary cooperation in teaching and research within the department. The applicant is expected to participate in the programme of continuing education and in the internal administration of the department. The position requires the development of new of projects and their funding; and the publication of results. The teaching remit is expected to cover other general aspects of conservation, in addition to the specialisation of conservation practice in field projects. It is expected that the applicant will supervise students both in situ and using modern communication means.
