Book Conservator Auckland City Libraries Auckland City Libraries delivers a premier library service from its seventeen sites within Auckland City and has the largest and most diverse collection of paper documentary heritage resources in a public library in New Zealand. The Heritage collection, valued at over $140 million contains unique New Zealand Maori and European material dating back to the 11th Century. The Book Conservator is responsible for the preservation and conservation of Auckland City Libraries' collections with overall responsibility for running the preservation unit. To be successful in this role you will need a strong conservation focus as well as ability to supervise a small team. We will be looking for significant book conservator experience--preferably more than 5 years. As this role is based in a public library, there will be customer contact so your customer service skills will be well honed. Challenges in the role include preserving collections that are in a wide variety of formats and making them accessible. You will also work on the prioritisation and execution of preventive conservation programmes in response to customer demands and library needs. Also, you'll have responsibility for developing and implementing sustainable preservation policies and guidelines.
