Subject: New site: Tate conservation
<URL:http://www.tate.org.uk/conservation/> The Tate Conservation online offering is a comprehensive overview of the seven specialist sections that make up Tate's conservation department: Frames, Paintings, Paper, Science, Sculpture, Time-based Media and the Workshop. It also includes: an About section covering the history of Tate Conservation, an FAQs section, and a Further Resources page. Highlights are well illustrated practical treatments, case studies and ongoing Research projects. The website invites visitors behind the scenes to see how works are prepared for display (e.g. the Sculpture Garden at St Ives), how traditional materials such as marble are cleaned as well as not so traditional materials such as congealed tapioca (Matthew Barney's 1992 Ottoshaft). The site also offers insights into conservators' work within a gallery, notably the recent Gilbert and George exhibition at Tate Modern, which involved condition checking 4,200 separate pieces of paper.
