Society of Archivists Conference Queen's University Belfast 28-31 August 2007 <URL:http://www.archives.org.uk> Preservation and Conservation Programme Keynote Preservation and Conservation Speakers: Mary Lynn Ritzenthaler and Kitty Nicholson (NARA, USA) Recent and Past Treatments and Display of the American Declaration of Independence Lena Libman (Israel Antiquities Authority) Conservation, Preservation and Display of the Dead Sea Scrolls Dr Chris Kitching Archival Buildings in the UK In addition to the above, the wide ranging themes in the 2007 Preservation and Conservation Programme should be of interest to all involved in cultural heritage. Delegates will get an insight into the challenges faced by Conservators responsible for preserving regional, national and international cultural treasures. Furthermore, delegates will be informed about the Arts and Humanities Research Project on disaster management in the UK. Conservation scientific papers will investigate the materials used to produce archival documents, providing a better understanding of how archive collections can be preserved and displayed. The New Accommodation theme will explore the ongoing research into archival buildings and will include a session on the lessons learned by PRONI in planning its new accommodation. Preservation strategies will be reviewed, in particular, the methodologies that can be used to assess the preservation needs of collections. This type of information is vital to those considering raising funds for preservation projects, particularly through national grant applications. Personal development issues will be addressed through discussions on the 2007 PACR review (including a PACR clinic) and how the British Library is identifying and addressing the internal and external training needs of its Conservators. Also of interest is a Pre-Conference Workshop on Monday 27 August 2007 run by the Digital Curation Centre on digital preservation issues. For the full conference programme, booking forms and updates, please check <URL:http://www.archives.org.uk/> as new information will be regularly added in the lead up to this major international conference being held in Belfast.
