The Institute of Conservation Paintings Group Invite you to a talk on "The Painting Technique of William Etty" Presented by Louise Hackett of Manchester City Art Gallery at the ICON Office 1 London Bridge, London SE1 9BG Tuesday 24 July 2007 (note new date) 6:30pm prompt William Etty, a Yorkshire born painter (1787-1849), gained a reputation during his lifetime as a painter of controversial subject matter and for his experimental painting technique. Throughout his life he explored the nude figure in art and experimented with oil paint mixtures. He was nicknamed 'Il Diablo' for his rapid application technique. This talk explores Etty's painting materials and techniques, and discusses how they can pose an issue for the condition and conservation of his paintings. Louise Hackett is a paintings conservator at Manchester City Galleries, in a post funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.
