Subject: Position at Whitworth Art Gallery
Project Conservator (Books and Paper) The Wardle Pattern Books Revealed Project The Whitworth Art Gallery Manchester, UK UKP21,682 - UKP25,135 pa Fixed term for 6 months The Wardle Pattern Books Revealed is a conservation, research and interpretation project that will offer new insights into the working processes of designers, manufacturers and retailers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The 11 textile sample books on which it is based are a potentially exceptional resource for research but in their present state the books are difficult to access. As part of the project they are being photographed digitally and published on the Gallery website for virtual "book browsing". A recent grant from the Designation Challenge Fund will fund low level remedial conservation of the eleven books and facilitate access by re-housing them.
