Chief of Preservation Research and Testing (Supervisory Physical Scientist) Library of Congress, Washington, DC Vacancy #070171 Salary Range: $110,363 - $143,471 Closing Date: August 2, 2007 The Preservation Directorate of the Library of Congress <URL:http://www.loc.gov/preserv/> announces a new posting for Chief of Preservation Research and Testing, effective immediately. This is a full-time, permanent, management position at the GS-15 level. The Chief of the Preservation Research and Testing Division has responsibility for developing, planning, and administering a large-scale, comprehensive scientific preservation research and testing program; developing practical solutions for problems underlying preservation of the Library*s varied and extensive collections; and administering human resource, budgetary, equipment, and facility issues associated with managing the division. The Chief is responsible for overseeing a newly upgraded research lab; hiring PhD level scientists to manage research programs for traditional, audiovisual and digital collections; and refining and implementing a proposed strategic plan for preservation research, 2008-2013. The Chief supervises a newly hired Lab Manager and a current core staff of seven, plus occasional post-doctoral students and visiting scientists. The Chief guides an increasingly active outreach and publication program to share research results with libraries, archives and preservation communities worldwide.
