Subject: Cellulose acetate
During a recent lab reorganization we find we possess two jars of cellulose acetate powder. We are adopting a practice of saving small quantities of such chemical orphans for later analysis (FTIR, etc.) to add to our spectra library and disposing of the remainder as long as it will not be useful in the future. However, none of us could come up with the possible reason of why so much of this material was originally acquired. A quick literature search was not particularly illuminating. We would like to archive some past uses of this material within the conservation of art and artifacts. What do you know of the uses for analytical grade powdered cellulose acetate for: analysis, treatment, etc.?
