The Museum of Archaeology, Stavanger (Norway) seeks Conservator
1-year contract.

Due to maternity leave the Museum of Archaeology, Stavanger seeks a
conservator for a 1-year vacancy commencing August 2007.

The work mainly entails the investigation and conservation of
material from the museum store and newly excavated material. The
work tasks will be varied however, and the work is carried out in a
cross-disciplinary context with close co-operation with the
archaeologists and environmental scientists.

The work tasks will consist of both active and preventive
conservation of all types of archaeological material (wood, textile,
bone/horn, amber, glass, all metals, stone).

The Department of Conservation has well-equipped and spacious modern
conservation laboratories. It employs seven conservators working
with the conservation of archaeological and social historical
artefacts, stone (including rock carvings) and paintings.

The department has extensive knowledge and experience with the
making of casts, models and copies in addition to active and
preventive conservation of most types of materials.

Stavanger is a beautiful, friendly and happening city on the West
coast of Norway. It is the European Capital of Culture in 2008.
