Save the Date: The Object in Transition: A Cross Disciplinary Conference on the Preservation and Study of Modern and Contemporary Art January 25-26, 2008 Getty Center, Los Angeles Presented by the Getty Conservation Institute and the Getty Research Institute, "The Object in Transition: A Cross Disciplinary Conference on the Preservation and Study of Modern and Contemporary Art", will explore some of the key issues surrounding the conservation of contemporary sculpture, painting, and mixed-media artworks, and the collaborative possibilities, primarily between conservators, art historians, and curators, working in these fields. The two-day event will feature intensive professional dialogues on case studies and general panel discussions. Topics will include the importance of an artwork's surface, dealing with process, the artist's and intent, the life and death of objects, and examining multi-disciplinary collaboration. A number of relevant art works are anticipated to be on display, enabling the audience to actively participate in the discussion of these works. In addition, a panel discussion, open to the public, with three influential contemporary artists (to be announced) in conversation with Christian Scheidemann (Private Conservator in NY) and Elisabeth Sussman (curator at the Whitney Museum of Art) will be held on Thursday evening, January 24, 2008 in the Harold M. Williams Auditorium at the Getty Center.
