Preservation Specialist (GS-1001-9) National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) Serves as an assistant to the Supervisory Preservation Specialist, and is responsible for leading a full range of projects relating to the preservation of primarily paper-based archival records. Proposes appropriate preservation and holdings maintenance procedures; executes treatments including analyzing solvent interaction and the condition of pigments, media, supports, etc as well as performing consolidation or stabilization of media, aqueous and non-aqueous treatments, leaf casting, pulp mending, encapsulation, and matting/display/storage of original documents; provides technical guidance to lower-graded employees; makes daily work assignments and schedules; maintains databases documenting project progress, and prepares statistical reports or written and photographic documentation of treatments; also assists with teaching; public outreach, exhibits and tours; disaster recovery and IPM; maintaining and ordering supplies or equipment; and planning for a facility move (ca. 2009).
