Conservation Assistant (Part-Time)
Gladys Brooks Conservation Laboratory
Division of Information Management
The New York Academy of Medicine

Hours for this position are approximately 21 hours/week. The rate for
this position is $21/hour with full medical benefits.

Responsibilities:

    Performs basic conservation treatment on paper, leather and
    cloth bindings

    Constructs enclosures for books, manuscripts and other library
    materials from the library's rare book collection and the
    general collection

    Prepares condition reports, creates photographic and written
    documentation of treatments

    Assists, as needed, with exhibition preparation and
    installation, matting, reframing, tours of the laboratory,
    surveys and environmental monitoring

Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree. Significant prior experience in bookbinding,
    book repair and book conservation via apprenticeship and/or
    working experience in a library setting is required

    Excellent hand skills and good time management are necessary
