This work, and three others belonging to the Permanent Collection at Tate, underwent a technical examination during a rare gap in their display commitments. Dali was a virtuoso painter, utilising a wide range of techniques and materials to paint tiny details, expressive landscapes and multi-layered compositions. Some of these will be revealed with the use of digital infrared reflectography, microscopy, and ultraviolet fluorescence images, and compared with the methods published in his book 50 Secrets of Magic Craftsmanship (1948).
