Conservation Scientist (12 month fixed term contract) Department of Conservation, Documentation and Science British Museum UKP 21,146 pa The British Museum is currently recruiting for a Conservation Scientist to work within the department of Conservation, Documentation and Science. This post will involve responsibility for analytical, materials testing and monitoring duties and provision of technical assistance to promote best practices throughout the Museum for the preservation and conservation of the collections with scientific research and other investigations related to the conservation and preservation of the collections of the British Museum. The ideal candidate will have a strong science background and interest or experience working in the areas of conservation science and/or preventive conservation. You will have an interest in the deterioration and conservation of historical and archaeological artefacts, with a particular emphasis on the impact of environmental factors on the preservation of such objects. You will ideally have experience in assessing and monitoring all aspects of environmental conditions (including light, relative humidity, temperature, air monitoring, etc) and in undertaking materials testing and in delivering a preventive conservation strategy The Museum is looking to appoint a candidate who is able to start as soon as possible and interviews are likely to be held towards the end of September/beginning of October.
