Temporary Senior Conservation Technician Peabody Museum-Harvard University Grade 55 The Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard University is seeking applicants to fill a temporary 18-month full-time Senior Conservation Technician position. Duties And Responsibilities: Perform coordinating role between conservation and collection management to ensure proper documentation, condition assessment, conservation stabilization and rehousing of the Museum's large Mesoamerican plaster cast collection. Perform wide range of conservation and administrative duties, requiring specialized knowledge of collection. Prepare objects for safe handling and move to work processing area. Conduct detailed condition assessments and prepare technical reports. Perform digital and other photographic documentation. Perform cleaning and object stabilization according to established conservation procedures. Assist in cushioning objects for long-term research/storage in customized rigid housings, and in construction of housings. Oversee day to day workload and in absence of Conservator, accomplish most tasks independently, keeping supervisor informed of progress. Required Education, Experience and Skills: BA in art conservation; or fine arts/studio arts with experience in art conservation through apprenticeship or internship. Advanced apprenticeship, diploma or internship in art conservation may be considered in lieu of BA degree in art conservation. 5 years working with objects in exhibit, collection management or conservation unit. Good knowledge and working experience with three-dimensional objects such as sculpture, plaster and/or ceramic. Required general knowledge of preventive conservation measures. Demonstrated experience conducting condition assessment of objects; and implementing conservation stabilization of objects with conservators. Knowledge of materials, fabrication technology and deterioration processes. Good understanding of storage issues related to fragile oversized three-dimensional objects. Knowledge of computer applications. Good working experience in digital photography of objects. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good oral and written communication skills.
