Assistant Conservator/Conservation Manager Judd Foundation Location: Marfa, Texas Salary: $35,000-45,000 depending upon experience + benefits (Housing provided with full term employment) Term: Two years, renewable (Early 2008) Job Description: Judd Foundation wishes to appoint a two-year Conservation Manager to oversee the development of a long-term conservation plan for its permanently installed collections in Texas and New York. Primary responsibilities include the completion of a Detailed Conservation Study of the Foundation's collection, based upon detailed condition reports and physical studies of installed works. The Conservation Manager will also oversee the appointment and day-to-day management of a paid graduate-level intern who will assist in completing object reports, photo-documentation and data entry; the scheduling of consultations with specialist conservators as necessary; and general advisement of Collections staff on the proper care and maintenance of the collection. Pending funding and based upon the specific skillset of the appointee, the Conservation Manager may assess and treat specific artworks determined in need of immediate treatment. The Conservation Manager will report directly to the Executive Director, and will be in regular contact with the Foundation's Advisory Committee for Conservation and Restoration, an international team of renowned conservators with extensive experience in the work of Donald Judd. The position will provide an opportunity for the appointee to work under the advisement of this Committee, as well as participate in conferences and consultations with advising conservators associated with caring for the specific objects in the Foundation's collection. The position will commence full-time in March of 2008 to continue through February 2010, and may be renewed. Required Skills Candidates must have a Master's Degree from of a recognized training program, with experience in both object treatment and in the preparation collections care planning and policy review. A background in paper conservation is preferred. As an integral member of a small artist foundation staff, the candidate must have strong organizational skills and the ability to work to deadline and in close collaboration with Foundation staff. Overall the candidate should have a keep interest in the special issues and problems that can arise in the treatment, study and safekeeping of twentieth century art.
