Subject: Consolidating distemper mural
I am wondering if anyone might have a suggestion for consolidating a distemper mural on canvas. The mural is painted to replicate "Zuber" wallpaper and was done in the 1890's. It is exhibiting cleavage between the paint layers. As one might expect, the paint is highly sensitive to water and darkens with contact with solvents like mineral spirits. Has anyone had success with Aquazol or Lascaux products in this type of application?
