Subject: Courses at West Dean College
West Dean College Conservation Courses A wide choice of primary training is available in this country in aspects of object care. However, there are relatively few opportunities for conservation professionals to find specialist training in traditional skills and enhance their knowledge of materials and techniques. West Dean College has developed a series of short courses aimed at meeting this training need. Preventive Conservation PC7803-26-29 November 2007 Course Leader: Linda Bullock Principal Tutor: Helen Lloyd Participants may be craftsmen, conservators, art historians and those with an interest in historic interiors. They may be junior conservators, or more experienced conservators who need to develop their range of skills. This course will equip participants with the current knowledge of factors which affect the integrity of materials in collections, how to assess and prioritise those risks and develop ways to mitigate them appropriate to the collections and available resources. The topics covered will include monitoring and control of the environment, light and lighting, gaseous and particulate pollutants, biological agents (mould and pests) and the mechanical damage resulting from handling, routine cleaning and the visitors themselves. The course will include plenty of hands-on practical sessions with the latest equipment and opportunities to exchange ideas and experience. Non-residential course fee: UKP315 Fully inclusive residential course fee: From 435 An Introduction to the Conservation of Transport and Industrial Collections PC7804-17-22 February 2008 Course Leader: Chris Knapp The course will deliver the fundamental information needed to understand the role and the approach of the conservator involved in the care of a transport or technology collection and to extend their knowledge of conservation principles and techniques.
