Conservator Temporary 12 month contract, maternity leave replacement (full time or part time negotiable) Western Sydney Records Centre, Kingswood Total remuneration packed valued up to AU$78951 p.a. including salary ($53847 - $71546 p.a.) State Records NSW will shortly have a temporary vacancy for the position of Conservator. This provides an opportunity for furthering experience in macro preservation programs and diverse and challenging interventive conservation treatments on a range of paper, parchment and photographic formats. This position is for a 12 month period commencing January 2008, and is available on a full-time or part-time basis. State Records NSW holds government archives dating back to the inception of the colony of New South Wales to the present day. The position will work with the Senior Conservator to provide a high level of preservation services for the State's archives. This includes survey and assessment work, conservation treatment, providing guidance for volunteers, and advice on the preservation and care of records and archives held in Government agencies and Regional Repositories. Selection Criteria: Tertiary qualifications in conservation with specialisation in paper conservation (or equivalent); some practical knowledge and experience in paper conservation; Understanding of macro-preservation strategies including climate control and pest management. Awareness of laboratory safety and the operation of conservation equipment; understanding of disaster preparedness and planning issues; capacity to work independently and as part of a team; sound communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information clearly and succinctly; basic computer skills, and familiarity with standard office software. The remuneration package quoted includes annual salary, employer's contributions to superannuation and annual leave loading.
