Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Associate objects conservator **** Moderator's comments: This position changes the Assistant objects conservator position posted in Conservation DistList Instance: 21:24 Saturday, September 29, 2007 The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston seeks a full-time Associate Objects Conservator for a one-year renewable term appointment in the Department of Conservation and Collections Management. The project conservator will focus on the examination and treatment of Greek ceramics and stone sculpture in the Museum's collection. Many of these ceramics are unstable, primarily due to the aging of previous restorations or the presence of soluble salts. Medium and large-scale Greek marble objects will also be treated; some structural work may be required. The project conservator will work closely with other objects conservators, conservation engineers, and curators in developing treatment and aesthetic solutions. The Associate Conservator will be capable of managing the organization and completion of complex treatments and any associated research independently and within the allotted time period. Some supervision of staff may be expected. The Division of Objects Conservation is responsible for the preservation, examination and treatment of three-dimensional objects and sculpture in this encyclopedic collection which spans the history of western and non-western art, ranging from archaeological material to contemporary art. Applicants must have a Master's degree (M.A. or M.S.) from a recognized graduate conservation training program specializing in objects conservation, and at least 5 years of post internship experience in objects conservation. Significant previous experience in the treatment of classical ceramics and stone is highly preferable. Excellent interpersonal, research, writing and organizational skills are required, as is facility with computer programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Excel, other database and word processing programs. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in professional meetings and publish findings. All work will be carried out in full compliance with the American Institute for Historic Preservation's professional guidelines and standards for practice. Salary commensurate with experience.
