Conservator, art on paper Museum Conservation Services Ltd Museum Conservation Services Ltd <URL:http://www.paperconservation.co.uk> has a vacancy for an enthusiastic conservator specialising in works of art on paper. We are a busy commercial conservation studio working mainly from museums, historic houses and institutions. We work on a wide range of artworks including watercolours, drawings, prints, pastels, manuscript maps and large items. The work is varied and at times challenging. In date the material ranges from the 15th century to the present day. The studio also carries out some work on historic photographs and very occasionally a little archival material. Artworks on parchment are also treated from time to time. We do not expect expertise in all these areas. Training will be given where necessary, including in the use of our custom-built conservation equipment. The successful candidate will work alongside several other paper conservators in our spacious and well equipped conservation studios near Cambridge in the UK. We are searching for an experienced 'bench conservator' principally for practical conservation and restoration work. If you are successful in this role there is the opportunity to advance into a mixed practical/supervisory role. In addition to studio-based work, we may also occasionally require UK site visits for surveys/insurance recovery/advisory work. From time to time we work on site abroad (flights, comfortable accommodation and meals are provided plus an additional weekly allowance). Applicants must have a BA or MA or equivalent, specialising in paper conservation. In addition they will have a proven track record of working to fixed estimates and deadlines and be able to work without detailed supervision. A willingness to carry on learning and developing is important. Starting salary: UKP19,000 - UKP24,000 according to qualifications and experience. A discretionary incentive of UKP1,000 per year will be paid for living locally. The successful candidate must be eligible for employment in the UK and should ideally have a full driving licence (not essential).
