Subject: Teacher sought for workshop on rubber artefacts
**** Moderator's comments: Please respond directly to the author. I am writing with reference to the ongoing refurbishment project of the War Museum of Heritage Malta. This has revealed the necessity to involve a specialist in the conservation of rubber artefacts of the WWII period. Heritage Malta would like to invite such a person over to conduct a workshop in early March 2008 for its conservators/graduates in order to be able to proceed with the conservation of the collection. The rubber material forms part of artefacts pertaining to World War I (1914-1918) and World War II (1939-45). Such rubber is part of gas masks mixed with textile and metal, radios mixed with bakelite/plastic or aeroplane tyres mixed with metal. Therefore we are dealing with composite artefacts. Neither the manufacturing process of the rubber nor that of the artefact itself have been researched by us as yet. Both active and preventive conservation expertise is necessary. I would be very grateful if anyone could help us identify an ideal specialist who would be willing and available to come to Malta for a short mission in this regard.
