Workshop History of bookbinding techniques: Part V (out of VI): Renaissance and later (1500-1800) centro del bel libro ascona 2-6 June 2008 The Renaissance binding technique is strongly influenced by cultural, economical and geographical developments. The early Renaissance wood cover binding is a decorative refinement of the Gothic technique. The invention of the printing process asked for faster production and lighter materials. Time-saving binding techniques using cardboard were developed during this period. The course is composed of lectures with double slide projection based on the research of Prof. Janos A. Szirmai and hands-on practical work. Each participant will do one or two sample-bindings.
